Code of Conduct
1. Respect and inclusion
Everyone participating in our workshops—students, instructors, and guests—deserves to feel safe and valued.
We welcome people of all races, genders, sexual orientations, abilities, ages, and backgrounds.
We do not tolerate harassment, discrimination, or hate speech in any form, whether verbal, written, physical, or digital.
2. Workshop culture
We hope all students who attend a workshop at Little Nice come with a spirit of curiosity and humility, and a willingness to grow and learn in community with others. We want to work hard, have fun, and explore our creative potential in a supportive environment.
When you enroll in a workshop, keep in mind that you are making a commitment to your fellow students and your instructor to meet the requirements of the class (submitting your work, reading and responding meaningfully to the work of others, assigned readings, etc). Classes are the most successful when students are prepared to be fully engaged.
Some specifics on feedback:
Our #1 goal as readers/listeners to help the artist achieve what they’ve set out to do with the work, and all feedback should be given with this goal in mind.
Approach the process with kindness, honesty, and specificity.
Use“I” statements (“I found this confusing” as opposed to “this is confusing.”)
Critique the work, not the artist: keep in mind that the narrator/main character of the work is not always the same as the artist. Avoid asking questions that attempt to make connections between the content of the work and the artist’s personal life (“Did this idea come from your experiences? Are you personally familiar with X/Y/Z?”).
Respect the artist’s intentions for the work: again, our job is to help the artist realize their vision for the story/song/performance, not to shape the work to fit our tastes and preferences.
Ask questions: questions are powerful tools that can encourage exploration. What about the work was confusing, intriguing, surprising? What piqued curiosity?
Confidentiality: keep shared work confidential, unless given explicit permission by the artist.
3. Accessibility and accommodations
We strive to make all programs accessible. If you need an accommodation—physical access, captioning, content warnings, or otherwise—let us know in advance, and we’ll do our best to meet your needs: info@littleniceworkshop.com.
4. Shared spaces
No alcohol or substances during workshop sessions.
Food and drink is permitted. Complimentary coffee and tea is available in the workshop space.
Respect the space: clean up after yourself, handle equipment gently, and leave rooms as you found them.
5. Commitment
By enrolling in a Little Nice Workshop, you agree to uphold this Code of Conduct.
If you experience or witness a violation of this Code of Conduct, please reach out to info@littleniceworkshop.com. All violations will be addressed immediately and with confidentiality.
